In their shag fur coats
Smiling and mugging cheese
Fresh mustard gas on the breeze
Taking a break from the sabers
Smoking pipefuls of flavors
These gents have seen hell
And screamed as bombs fell
Half smiles telling lies
As shown by their eyes
They stand at the gates
Of impossible fates
Awaiting the call
To charge over the wall
Quick-zagging meat shields
Sprint ‘cross the blood fields
To the next damned trench
Into stinging corpse stench
The dead feel no pain
And they don’t mind the rain
Even those that survive
Are no longer alive
Their spirits left on boats
Filled with men in shag coats
Sailing as fast as they can
Beyond the evil deeds of man
